Who We Are

Our family has been practicing tax and accounting together since 1935; almost 100 years later the firm is still family run. Our decades of tax and accounting experience plus over forty hours of annual continuing education allow us to provide you with current tax laws regulations and to be your resource for personal finance and business needs. We are here year-round, to answer your questions and support you during changes in your life and business.

Timeline

  • 1913

    Federal income tax was officially enacted for individuals; corporate income taxes were enacted earlier in 1909. The first form was only 3 pages long!

  • 1935

    Peter’s father and Melissa’s grandfather started the accounting practice.

  • 1965

    Peter “enlists” in the firm joining his father and older brother (after leaving the Army in 1962).

  • 1982

    Peter submits his first electronically prepared tax return! When he purchased his first computer he made the family “stand back” while he plugged it in and turned it on!

  • 2007

    The company’s name was changed to Ehmann & Company LLP.

  • 2013

    Melissa joins the family practice, and dogs became a much more common sight in the office.

Peter Ehmann

Peter has been practicing tax accounting and bookkeeping for over 50 years. He specializes in helping new businesses, restaurants, contractors, and farms. He enjoys tackling IRS issues and audits.

When Peter is not working, he can be found spending time with his antique automobile collection (Packards and Mopars), working on his farm, talking about aviation, and volunteering with his Masonic Lodges.

Melissa Ehmann

Melissa joined the family practice in 2013 after spending a decade working in the hedge fund industry both as an in-house middle/back-office operations and as a Prime Broker. Melissa also worked for five years in public accounting in Boston and in London. Her full CV can be found on LinkedIn.

When she isn’t working, Melissa spends her time with her husband and their Seeing Eye ‘Career Changed’ Golden Retriever enjoying their cabin in the woods along the Black River., volunteering with the Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center, FlyPups Inc, and the Tewksbury Historical Society, and cooking at home from her vast cookbook collection.
